Pope Elementary School
The district challenged VLK Architects to design a building featuring adaptable spaces for a variety of instructional styles and the modern learning environment the district offers. Learning areas were designed to embrace the district’s “open and transparent” instructional method featuring collaborative classrooms and operable walls to create a variety of instructional settings. Educational “green” strategies include MDF rooms that allow students to see the systems at work; an interactive energy dashboard which displays climate conditions and energy usage of the building; a rainwater harvesting system which helps educate students about irrigation and water sources; and a solar panel and a wind generator. The school design incorporates and complies with the Texas Collaborative for High Performance Schools (TX-CHPS).
