(Corpus Christi, Texas) – On the morning of Wednesday, March 26, 2025, VLK joined Tuloso-Midway ISD and the Corpus Christi community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the district’s transformative Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center and Natatorium renovation project. Funded by the voter-approved November 2023 bond, this $48 million investment reflects Tuloso-Midway ISD’s unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for every student.
“With the job market evolving at an unprecedented pace, it is essential that we equip our students with the right tools, skills, and experiences necessary to be successful,” said Superintendent Steve VanMatre.
These transformative projects will provide Tuloso-Midway ISD students with state-of-the-art facilities that enhance both career training and athletic opportunities. Designed by architecture firm VLK, the 56,729 sf CTE Center will provide cutting-edge spaces for programs in welding, robotics, health sciences, cosmetology, engineering, and more, giving students hands-on experience in high-demand fields. Meanwhile, VLK’s designed renovations to the Natatorium modernizes the facility with crucial infrastructure upgrades, including improved HVAC, filtration, and lighting systems, expands seating for 612 spectators, and improves the scoreboard, timing systems, and locker rooms. By investing in both the CTE Center and Natatorium projects, Tuloso-Midway ISD ensures that students have the tools and spaces to thrive in their academic and career pursuits.

“VLK is excited to see construction begin on the new CTE Center and Natatorium renovations,” said Michael Martinez, Principal at VLK. “These projects will be a game-changer for Tuloso-Midway ISD and represent a major investment in Tuloso-Midway ISD’s students and community.”
The groundbreaking event marks a significant step in fulfilling the propositions of the November 2023 bond. With the new CTE center and natatorium renovations, Tuloso-Midway ISD is responding to the growing student interest in industry-based education, providing updated facilities that align with the latest industry standards. This dedicated space will equip students with hands-on experience, keeping them prepared for future careers. With construction now underway, the Natatorium renovations are expected to be complete for the 2025-2026 school year and the CTE Center will open for the 2026-2027 school year.
