Continuing the Legacy of Azle Elementary School
Azle, Texas – On Tuesday, August 7th, VLK Architects and Azle ISD celebrated the opening of the new Azle Elementary School with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. This new elementary will serve 750 students in grades 5 and 6. The rich culture of the original Azle Elementary campus played an influential role in the design of this new school.
The new campus was designed with a rock exterior in honor of the cherished 100 year old building that was nicknamed “the rock” school. “Rock leaders” will be the motto for the new school as a way of carrying on the legacy of the iconic old building while blazing a pathway for future leaders. In order to preserve the district’s oldest school building, the previous Azle Elementary Campus will be adapted for reuse as the district’s administration and daycare facility.
The new school was designed with an abundance of natural light and unique learning spaces throughout the campus. The interior of the school contains a large learning commons, various large and small group collaboration areas, labs for science and motor skills, as well as other subject specific and flex spaces. The school also has an outdoor learning corridor, a playground, and a large open play field for outdoor activities.
“It is amazing to know that Azle Elementary School has been serving its community by educating students for over a century. It is an honor to be a part of that continued legacy for the next century,” said VLK Principal, Clinton Schiver.
Other Azle ISD campuses opening this fall are the new Walnut Creek Elementary and the newly renovated Silver Creek Elementary. The schools will open their doors to students for the 2018-2019 school year beginning on August 15th.
