Katy ISD Opens District's Fourth Prototype Elementary School

Fulshear, Texas – On August 15th, Katy ISD welcomed students back to school with the opening of its 41st elementary campus, Campbell Elementary, designed by VLK Architects. The new school was named after Katy ISD living legacy, Amy Campbell, who dedicated 33 years of her education career to the district, founding several significant student programs during her tenure. Campbell Elementary is a 144,300 sf campus with a capacity of 1,030 students. This new elementary is located in the Cross Creek Subdivision in Fulshear on Cross Creek Bend Lane and will serve preK-fifth grade students.

In 2014, Katy ISD partnered with VLK Architects to collaborate on a new two-story elementary school prototype design. Campbell Elementary is the fourth prototype elementary campus in Katy ISD featuring adaptable spaces for a range of instructional styles to support next generation learning. The classroom pods are arranged around a central media center in order to promote collaboration and learning through the extension of the classroom. Each classroom pod contains eight classrooms, an activity center, restrooms, and a teacher workspace.

The design of this new building allows for ease of student circulation while providing a safe and secure environment for learning. The central shared collaboration space also contains a learning stair and student gallery for multi grade uses and activities. Green space between each classroom wing provides outdoor learning opportunities for students with grade appropriate visuals.

“VLK is proud to be a part of Katy’s 41st elementary campus,” said VLK Architects Partner, Todd Lien. “We know this campus will provide valued learning experiences for children of this community for years to come.”
