Nadine Elementary School

Hutto Independent School District - Hutto, TX

In an effort to provide equity amongst aging campuses, renovations of the library and adjacent learning spaces were desired. The new environments needed to reflect the district's high student expectations, foster collaboration, promote project-based learning and allow student choice within their blended learning model. Renovations include; a bright and welcoming library, direct access to a renovated courtyard, and glass garage doors that connect to innovative hands-on environments.

To reimagine the traditional library model, renovation designs reflected refinement of the purpose of the elementary library in terms of function and design. Renovation discussions were grounded in collaboration, transformation, and creating the “heart” of the school. Collaboration pods were defined through paint selection, lighting, and flexible furniture. The renovated “Amoeba” shaped library creates inviting zones for scaleable groups and eliminates the rigid feeling of a traditional design.
