In 2017, the Socorro community choose to call for an election to address growth, but also to address some of the needs at some of its legacy campuses. The reconstruction of Socorro High School was the pinnacle of that effort. Present day SHS serves 2,500 students; 1,050 core students, 500 Health Profession Academy students, 500 Socorro Early College students, and 500 Career & Technology students. All of this occurs in a facility that was originally built in the 1960’s as a standard 2,500 student high school. The reconstruction project includes replacement of a majority of the campus to provide 310,000 sf of new academic, health profession, Early College and Career & Technology classrooms, labs and shops as well as renovation of 170,000 sf of the existing fine arts and athletics areas.
