On the morning of Saturday, August 2nd, VLK, Lockhart Independent School District, Drymalla Construction, and students, teachers, school board members, and community members to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the district’s sixth elementary campus, Borchert Loop Elementary School.

Named after a road on the western edge of town as well as former landowners from the area more than a century ago, Borchert Loop Elementary is a community-driven educational solution to accommodate Lockhart ISD’s rapid growth. In 2023, Lockhart ISD and community stakeholders participated in the VLK | LAUNCH® process to explore and define the district’s goals for the new campus. The result is a 90,000 sf facility designed to accommodate up to 726 students across 38 general classrooms.

The school’s library, cafeteria, and gymnasium flex between individual spaces and a blended core, enhancing student experiences and social interaction. A multipurpose platform divides the library and cafeteria, offering flexibility for different modes of learning. The classroom layout breaks from traditional models with thoughtfully programmed zones that spark creativity and provide space for both collaboration and innovation. Additional features include safe indoor and outdoor learning areas, a spiral slide connecting levels, and next-generation makerspaces throughout. The ribbon cutting served as a meaningful close to years of planning, and the start of countless new beginnings for Lockhart ISD students. The new campus will open its doors to LISD students for the 2025-2026 school year on August 13th.
