(Fort Worth, TX) – VLK joined Texas Woman’s University, the City of Denton, and Bezos Academy to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Bezos Academy Denton, a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool serving the university community and broader Denton families. The 10,900-square-foot facility features six classrooms designed to accommodate 140 children ages three to five.
This project exemplified complex public-private partnership coordination. VLK navigated stakeholder requirements across three distinct organizations, each with different priorities, constraints, and operational needs, to deliver a cohesive design solution. The result is a Georgian-style building that honors TWU’s historic campus character while meeting the specialized requirements of early childhood education, security protocols, and operational efficiency for both Bezos Academy and the university.
The $4.5 million project was funded through a combination of sources: TWU contributed the campus site and institutional support, the City of Denton invested funds to expand classroom capacity by two rooms and accommodate an additional 40 students, and Bezos Academy brought expertise in high-quality early childhood programming. This partnership directly addresses a critical community need in understanding that quality childcare is foundational to educational opportunity, economic mobility, and workforce participation.
Dr. Carine Feyten, Chancellor and President of Texas Woman’s University, emphasized the project’s significance. “For every child who walks through these doors, there is a family whose possibilities may have just become a little bit larger, and that is why partnership matters,” said Dr. Feyten.
VLK’s design integrates indoor and outdoor learning spaces while maintaining security standards and includes an on-site kitchen for nutritious food service. The building supports not only early learners but also provides practical educational experiences for TWU’s education students and faculty.
The academy is well timed as Denton experiences significant growth, positioning early childhood education access as a strategic community asset. The school opens with full enrollment and a waitlist, beginning September 9, 2026.
