Architecture Director
Location: Dallas
VLK Architects is seeking an Architecture Director for our Dallas office due to the growth and expansion we are experiencing. This position will work with firm leadership in identifying, establishing and implementing overall strategies for the Architecture unit within a specific office. They will manage resources, motivate and mentor staff, and assemble task groups as needed to study, implement and execute various standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor architectural staff through project execution and professional development. This involves assisting with complex project issues, training on best practices, and providing performance feedback. You will also oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of new staff, including reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and onboarding.
- A key part of the role is to manage project scheduling and staffing efficiently, working with firm Principals and other Architecture Directors to ensure optimal resource utilization across all projects. This includes forecasting future workload to determine staffing needs and assigning qualified personnel to projects to ensure needs and expectations of clients are met.
- Implement and oversee architectural standards and procedures, working with the COO and Quality Assurance Director to innovate the firm’s architectural practice. This also entails ensuring project teams follow documented processes, identifying needs for new procedures, and developing them, as well as assembling task groups for research and development.
- Administrative tasks include approving timesheets and expense reports. You will also ensure that staff members have the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively.
Requirements
Academic/Professional:
- Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited University
- Registered Architect
- LEED® AP preferred

Physical Requirements:
- While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to sit or stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee will need to be able to occasionally climb ladders to review existing conditions at job site and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in the Architecture field on commercial projects
- Experience managing, leading and mentoring project groups from all disciplines such as Architectural, Interior Design, Construction Administration.
- Experience in K-12, Higher Ed, Commercial, and Automotive market sectors is preferred
