Project Director
Location: Houston
VLK Architects is seeking a Project Director for our Houston office due to the high growth and expansion we are experiencing. This position will manage the design team’s efforts and consults with firm Principal regarding project and client decisions as a representative for VLK. They are responsible for project management, project scheduling, executing proposals and contracts between VLK, clients, and consultants with oversight by firm Principal.
Responsibilities
- Oversees project team and execution of deliverables by coordinating all project efforts, administrative and technical, to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects. Prepares strategic plans to ensure project success.
- Responsible for meeting project schedule and budgets
- Manages the consultant team on the project ensuring deliverables are correct and on time. Estimates fees, determines scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts.
- Reports to firm Principal on project’s logistics and performance. Serves as primary client liaison contact to complete projects on schedule, within budget, and with maximum client satisfaction.
- Reports to Architecture Director on team performance relative to personnel, to ensure staff is being mentored and developed consistently.
- Serves as a resource to Architecture Directors on practice issues and resource needs and development to continue to improve the processes implemented in the execution of projects.
- Manages multiple projects at one time.
- Ensures construction documents and construction administration is at the highest level possible. Makes certain that all team members are consistent in the execution of work.
Requirements
Academic/Professional:
- Professional degree in Architecture from a NAAB accredited University preferred
- Registered Architect
- LEED AP preferred

- Documented experience leading and mentoring project teams.
- Analytical problem-solving abilities, with experience producing high-quality work that is on-time and within budget.
- Ability to create and manage project budgets.
- Experience developing proposals and executing contracts, specifically AIA Contract Documents
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Must work well in a team environment, fostering collaboration.

Physical Requirements:
- Able to drive
- Able to walk construction sites with varying degrees of challenging terrain
- Able to climb ladders to review work performed on upper levels and roofs
- Able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in an Architecture firm on commercial projects.
- Must have at least 3 years’ experience managing projects or leading project teams within a firm.
- Experience in K-12 and Higher Ed market sectors is preferred.
- Proficiency with relevant software, including MS Office. Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is desirable.
