Port Neches-Groves ISD Port Neches-Groves Intermediate School
Port Neches Intermediate School 3-5 was designed through a collaborative process with VLK, Port Neches Groves ISD, and the community. The building is an innovative and inspiring environment for young minds in the district. The new school features multiple collaborative spaces and a prominent rounded jewel feature at the front of the school that houses fine arts, a makerspace, media center, living rooms, and a science lab.

For PNG ISD, the challenge was unifying two deeply rooted elementary schools into one purposefully designed campus that could serve as a long-term solution for the district’s growth and its evolving educational vision while honoring its community history.
Through an inclusive planning process involving over 100 voices—including students, staff, and families— the district established clear goals that shaped every part of the design. The result is a highly adaptable campus that supports a wide range of instructional methods, social-emotional learning, and collaboration.
From the flexible two-sided stage and outdoor terrace to the open “living rooms” and varied small-group zones, VLK designed the school to provide students with space to move, connect, and thrive. The new campus is designed based on community input to support the whole child through purposeful, student-centered spaces.
