Sherman ISD Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Sherman HS

(Sherman, Texas) - On October 1st, 2018, VLK Architects gathered with Sherman ISD students, staff, administrators, and a passionate crowd of community members to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sherman High School. This new school is being built as a part of the bond passed by Sherman voters in November of 2017.

“It was extremely gratifying to have a hand in designing the framework for a building that will play such an integral part in this community for years to come,” said Sherman High School student, Nick Estes. “The administration and the team from VLK Architects were so passionate about the project and their receptiveness to our ideas created an amazing creative atmosphere. Together with a fantastic group of teachers, community leaders, and students that were assembled, we put together a plan for the single greatest high school of all time and we had a lot of fun doing it."

Located at the intersection of Steeplechase Drive and FM 1417, the new 491,174 SF campus will replace the district’s current high school. It will serve up to 2,600, 9th- 12th-grade students providing modern spaces for generations of Bearcats. As the district's only comprehensive high school, the campus will include core academic spaces, indoor and outdoor athletics, fine arts, and an extensive array of career and technology shops and labs. This new campus provides endless opportunities for students, room for growing enrollment, and numerous safety and security improvements.

Superintendent, Dr. David Hicks, said, “The new school will provide state of the art learning spaces, almost a half-million square feet for academics, fine arts, technology and engineering, and career and vocational programs. This will prepare many future generations of Bearcats to be their very best.”

The highly anticipated building will be open for students in the fall of 2020.
