VLK Architects Joins Florence ISD in the Florence Elementary School Groundbreaking Event
(Florence, Texas) – On Thursday, May 9, 2024, VLK Architects joined Florence ISD and the City of Florence for the groundbreaking of the new Florence Elementary School, a replacement school to accommodate the growing number of enrollments in the area.
“I cannot thank our citizens and community enough for their support and belief in our schools and our staff,” said Superintendent Rick Kirkpatrick. “Schools tend to have a connecting effect … they are a microcosm of the community. The strong sense of pride Florence has will be reflected in our new school. I am looking forward to opening a place where students and staff love to come each day to learn and that has a sense of community. We look forward to opening the doors of this building for students and staff in August of 2025.”
The new elementary school will be an 82,250 sf campus that will accommodate up to approximately 765 students. The school offers pre-K through fifth grade students a vibrant library, maker space, and outdoor learning and playgrounds integrated within the courtyards between each wing. Additional programs include early childhood special education, science, music, and social and emotional learning classrooms.
The project received its funding from a voter-approved May 2022 bond and an additional bond earlier this month.
