VLK Architects Joins Texas Woman’s University in the Bezos Academy Denton Groundbreaking Event

(Denton, Texas) – Last Thursday, April 25, 2024, VLK Architects joined Texas Woman’s University and The City of Denton for the groundbreaking of Bezos Academy Denton, a tuition-free, Montessori-inspired preschool built to accommodate the children of TWU student-parents and Denton families with year-round, full-day programming. It is a partnership between TWU, Bezos Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to early childhood education, and the City of Denton.

The 10,900 sf campus will include six classrooms accommodating 120 children between the ages of three and five. VLK’s design links indoor spaces to the outdoors while being mindful of security and includes a kitchen for nutritious, onsite food service.

“It’s been a pleasure working with TWU, the Bezos Foundation, and the City of Denton in bringing to life their unique vision for a new Montessori preschool facility,” said Lee Hill, VLK’s Project Architect. “Together, we met the design requirements while integrating the building into its unique historic context on the TWU Campus.”

The $4.5 million construction project includes the new building and outdoor spaces built on TWU’s owned property. The City of Denton contributed $1.5 million to the project to increase the center’s capacity to six classrooms. Bezos Academy Denton will also offer TWU education students the opportunity for hands-on, in-classroom learning.
