VLK Architects Celebrates Grand Opening of the Crowley ISD Natatorium at the Ryan Family YMCA

(Fort Worth, Texas) – On Friday morning, June 2, 2023, VLK Architects joined Crowley ISD for the Grand Splash at Ryan Family YMCA celebrating the opening of the new CISD Natatorium. The new facility meets UIL requirements for the district’s high school swim teams and allows Ryan Family YMCA to expand access to swim and water safety programs for CISD students and the surrounding community.

“This project is a long time coming, and our students and community deserve this,” Crowley ISD Executive Director of Athletics Daryle Moffett said. “Not only will our student-athletes from both the CHS and NCHS swim teams benefit from having access to a pool that meets UIL requirements for competitions, students and adults of all ages will have the opportunity to take part in swim and water safety classes offered by the Y here.”

Designed by VLK, the CISD Natatorium features large storefront windows along the north wall providing abundant natural light, a new scoreboard for competitions, and ample seating for spectators in new aluminum bleachers. The previous pool was demolished, and, in its place, the new pool doubles the number of swimming lanes to eight. The locker rooms are renovated and updated with ADA-compliant fixtures, while a new mechanical system provides dehumidification.

“We worked with CISD and the YMCA to provide a natatorium that maximized the footprint delivering the programmatic needs of the district and the YMCA,” said Lauren Brown, Principal at VLK Architects. “The community has enjoyed this facility for years and now the improvements will allow for recreation and competition for years to come.”

Thanks to the collaboration between CISD and the YMCA, this project delivers on a promise from a previous bond package at a lower cost to the community.
