Brazosport ISD Breaks Ground on New Replacement Elementary School

Clute, TX – On March 23, representatives with VLK Architects joined students and staff for a groundbreaking celebration for Brazosport ISD’s new Ogg Elementary School which will replace the existing 61-year old Ogg Elementary campus. The new two story replacement school will be built on the south side of the current school site located at Lazy Lane and Lakeview Drive. This state-of-the-art facility was funded by the district’s 2014 bond, and will serve 750 students in grades pre-kindergarten through four.

“It’s exciting to break ground and start construction on the new Ogg Replacement Elementary School,” said Todd Lien, Partner, VLK Architects. “This community is focused on providing facilities that promote learning and academic excellence for generations to come. We look forward to the day when students and teachers will enter this building for the first time.”

Ogg Elementary School opened in 1957 and was named after the district’s first official superintendent, Terrell W. Ogg, who followed two acting superintendents. Ogg began his superintendency in 1946 and retired in May of 1957. Two months after his retirement, the original building opened its doors to students and was named T.W. Ogg Elementary.

Ogg’s legacy continues with the construction of the new replacement school.  The school is organized around a centrally located media center with connected green space to promote outdoor learning. A large multipurpose space will function as a cafeteria and gym and serve as a meeting space for large events. The design allows for natural light in all classrooms as well as areas dedicated to collaborative learning in the classroom wings. Each wing also includes 13 classrooms, a teacher planning area, and restrooms. Two elevators and a centrally located stairway provide access to the second floor of the school. Outdoor play areas are located near each wing of the building, and a bus loop is near the multipurpose gym and cafeteria. The design also features a quarter mile long walking path on the north side of the facility.

“The new Ogg Elementary will continue to be the heart of this community,” said Brazosport ISD Superintendent Danny Massey. “This new school will celebrate the lasting legacy of all current and former Ogg Elementary students and staff as well as its namesake, Superintendent Terrell W. Ogg.” The new Ogg Replacement Elementary School is scheduled open for the fall of 2019.
