VLK Architects and Royse City ISD Celebrate Beam Signing for the New Paula Walker Elementary School
On Friday, November 10, 2023, VLK Architects, Northstar Builders, and Royse City Independent School District gathered with students, teachers, school board members, and community members for a beam signing at the new Paula Walker Elementary School.
"VLK is proud to be a part of the design team for the seventh elementary school in Royse City ISD," said Ross Rivers, Principal at VLK Architects. "Through the robust collaboration among RCISD, VLK, and Northstar Builders, Paula Walker Elementary School signifies a significant stride in accommodating the fast growth and ongoing achievements of Royse City ISD."
Paula Walker Elementary School is a prototype elementary campus originally designed by VLK for the Ruth Cherry Elementary School replacement campus that opened in fall 2022. The design was slightly modified for this new campus to include an angled climbing surface with a built-in small slide and reading nooks in the library to engage curious children. These updates were made to enhance functionality while reducing costs. The building is divided into age-appropriate spaces with grades K-2 housed on the first floor and grades 3-5 upstairs.
“We have such a great partnership with VLK Architects and Northstar Builders, and they make such a positive impact on Royse City ISD,” said Dr. Amy Anderson, Deputy Superintendent of Royse City ISD. “We are so proud of this new facility and the heart that our community has poured into the design of Paula Walker Elementary School.”
This project is the seventh elementary school in the district and is set to welcome students and staff members in August of 2024.
