VLK Architects Celebrates the Dedication of Lamar CISD’s Adriane Mathews Gray Elementary School
(Rosenberg, Texas) – On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, VLK Architects joined Lamar Consolidated Independent School District to celebrate the dedication of the new Adriane Mathews Gray Elementary School.
The school’s namesake, Adriane Mathews Gray, was a Richmond, Texas native and a Lamar Consolidated High School alumnus. She was the creator and CEO of Lunches of Love, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping end childhood hunger feeding children in need. Lunches of Love now feeds more than 4,000 children attending 18 Lamar CISD schools.
“Adriane’s heart for students and her community is contagious, and it was very evident that she loved what she did,” said Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, Superintendent of Lamar CISD. “It was a true honor to know Adriane, and the service that Lunches of Love provides to the community is second to none.”
Gray Elementary School is a prototype elementary campus designed to allow for ease of student circulation and to facilitate supervision and administration, all while providing a safe and secure campus. Six classroom pods break off the main shared corridor, divided by grade level. Each grade level pod has its own special programs area as well as collaboration spaces and restrooms centralized for use by each classroom. Outdoor learning courtyards were strategically placed with secured fences between classroom pods. The heart of the campus is the media center with a connecting large group instruction space for staff and events.
“We are extremely excited to be able to work with LCISD and Dr. Nivens to provide another outstanding learning facility to meet their tremendous growth needs on time and within the budget," said VLK Managing Partner, Todd Lien.
