VLK Hosts High School Students for Job Shadow Day
Houston, Texas - On January 20th, VLK hosted students from Klein Collins High School and Bridgeland High School for Job Shadow Day. This event provided students with the opportunity to learn about the professional world through connection with individuals that are experts in their fields of interest. This is the fourth year VLK has welcomed students who get to experience a day in the life of an architect.
“Job Shadow Day gives students not only an insight into the field of architecture and design, but also provides students with helpful tips and information on how they can be proactive in high school and college that will aid in their future success,” said Clarissa Quintana, Interior Designer, VLK Architects. “VLK does a great job of providing high school students the opportunity to learn and interact with working professionals within the firm.”
Eight interaction stations were created throughout the Houston office to allow students to meet the VLK employees and learn about careers in architecture. One of the stations, led by Chris Lyner, Experience Designer, VLK Architects, included a virtual reality experience that allowed students to demo Google Cardboard and experience the world of virtual reality and animation within the realm of architecture. Students also attended a luncheon where speakers, representing a typical architecture team, explained their role in the process from plan conception to project completion.
“This event is such a joy every year in our office. We love having the opportunity to inspire the students and in return they bring excitement to our office,” said Krista Thomas, Architectural Intern, VLK Architects.
