VLK Wins People's Choice at Canstruction 2018!

Fort Worth, Texas – On Sunday October 14th, representatives from VLK Architects gathered at North East Mall to participate in the 20th annual Canstruction® Fort Worth contest benefitting Tarrant Area Food Bank. The event brings together groups from around the Fort Worth area to purchase canned goods and design a themed structure built with the cans. The structures remain on display for a week for “fan voting” to determine the winner. After the exhibition, all cans and proceeds are used by Tarrant Area Food Bank. On Sunday October 21st, the winners were announced and VLK’s structure won the People’s Choice award!

This year’s theme was “BOLD VISION, BIG IMPACT” celebrating 20 years of Canstruction® Fort Worth.

“In the design, we focused on the vision and impact portion and decided the Incredibles 2 movie was a good topic to build. Edna Mode always has a bold vision for the super suit costumes she designs and because of those suits, the super heroes are able to make a big impact, fighting crime in style,” said Canstruction Team Member Sydne Goldstein. “I love this event because we often sit at our desks and create drawings on the computer for someone else to build and what Canstruction® does is allow us to come up with a design, build it ourselves, and help those in need in the process.”

VLK’s structure depicted Edna Mode on one side and the Incredibles logo on the other. The design was built with 804 cans of chili, beans, tomatoes, and peaches. The proceeds from VLK’s fan votes totaled $1,535 which will provide 7,675 meals for those in need in Tarrant County!
