Building the Legacy at Amy Campbell Elementary School

Fulshear, TX – On January 15th, VLK Architects attended a dedication ceremony commemorating the formal naming of Amy Campbell Elementary. Amy Campbell dedicated 33 years of her educational career to Katy ISD and founded several significant student programs during her tenure such as the Living in Functional Environments (LIFE) skills program for students with developmental and intellectual disabilities, the Occupational Lab where students completed work-study assignments for local businesses, and the Work-Based Learning Program which continues today throughout all Katy ISD high schools.

The opening of Amy Campbell Elementary School marks the fourth prototype elementary campus designed by VLK Architects and serving pre-K through fifth grade students in Katy ISD. Adaptable spaces were created, allowing classes to be held in pods arranged around a central media center. The pods contain eight classrooms, an activity center, restrooms, and a teacher workspace allow students to circulate easily while providing a safe and secure learning environment for the students and faculty of Katy ISD.

“Mrs. Campbell’s legacy can be felt each day throughout this campus' culture of compassion, encouragement, and strength. May this building honor the life, values, and inspiration of you, Mrs. Campbell, as well as the whole Katy community.” said Courtney Doyle, President of Katy ISD Board of Trustees.
