VLK Architects Breaks Ground on Royse City ISD’s Elementary School No. 7
On Friday, February 17th, VLK Architects joined with Royse City ISD to celebrate the groundbreaking of the district’s seventh elementary school. This project, to be named this summer following community input, was included in the May 2021 Bond.
“VLK was honored to take part in the groundbreaking for the next Royse City ISD elementary school alongside community members, district representatives, and Northstar Builders,” said Ross Rivers, Principal | VLK Architects. “As a result of the strong partnership between RCISD, VLK, and Northstar, this new facility is another step in accommodating the growth and continued success of the Royse City Independent School District.”
This project is a prototype elementary campus designed by VLK for the Ruth Cherry Elementary School replacement campus that opened in fall 2022. Unique features of this campus include updated finishes and a modernized library space remaining at the heart of the campus. This specialized design includes an angled climbing surface with a built-in small slide. These modifications were made to enhance functionality while reducing costs. The building is divided into age-appropriate spaces with grades K-2 housed on the first floor and grades 3-5 upstairs.
Superintendent of Royse City ISD, Kevin Worthy, welcomed visitors to the groundbreaking saying:
“We are proud to break ground on our seventh elementary school. As a fast-growth school district, our partnership with VLK Architects is greatly valued. We’re able to collaborate on what is best for our community, students, and staff. We look forward to naming this new school over the summer and we anticipate a beautiful space that invites learning, friendships, and lifelong memories.”
With construction underway, the new campus is scheduled to welcome students and staff members in August of 2024.
