VLK Architects Joins Azle ISD for Ribbon Cutting of Hilltop Elementary School

On Saturday, August 5, 2023, VLK Architects alongside Azle ISD celebrated the grand opening of Hilltop Elementary School, the district’s first new campus in 25 years. Representatives from Azle ISD, the project team, and community members joined together for a ribbon cutting and leveling ceremony.

“We are honored by our partnership and service to the community of Azle that started over 30 years ago,” said Clinton Schiver, Principal of VLK Architects. “It is so rewarding to see the results of our efforts bring a smile to students and teachers faces, and that they are excited for the new school year in Azle ISD.”

Located on a hilltop site, the design of this new campus parallels the floorplan of Walnut Creek Elementary School. The new two-story building spans approximately 80,000sf including a large learning commons at the heart of the building. The campus also includes an operable partition between the gym and cafeteria to provide a large multipurpose space for both community and campus events, as well as separation of public and student spaces to prioritize student safety.

“We appreciate our partnership with VLK Architects,” said Todd Smith, Superintendent of Azle ISD. “We look forward to this new and innovative campus design serving generations of Hilltop Hornets and our Azle ISD community for many years. We are extremely thankful to our Azle ISD community for allowing this historical achievement to happen with the approval of the May 2021 bond election.”

The new campus received funding through the May 2021 bond to support growth on the southwest side of the district. Hilltop Elementary is set to open its doors to students later this month for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
