At Condit Elementary, classrooms are organized and threaded like a ribbon through the learning commons, which serves as the main hub for the school. The ribbon of classrooms is organized to allow each grade to be grouped into a “pod” with their own collaboration space, which is connected to the learning commons. Early on in the design process, VLK organized a design charrette to set the vision for the project. By the end of the two-day session with project stakeholders, the vision of the design was set. “Education is the ribbon that ties the community together” serves as the guiding force for the design of the building.
